ZiPhone: jailbreak any version iPhone out of the box, including 1.1.3
We're not yet entirely sure how it works, but iPhone hacker Zibri's just released a new app he's calling ZiPhone, which claims to jailbreak any version iPhone -- including new 1.1.3 phones right out of the box -- without messy downgrades and baseband changes. We haven't tested it ourselves, but prepare for the onslaught of downloaders to take it offline in five... four... three...
[Thanks, Tyler and Eugene]
Update (2/13): Looks like v2 is out, and it's capable of downgrading the bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9. Thanks, Yuri.

THANK YOU GUYS!

Doesn't work under Vista. Vista pops up the "ZiPhone v1.0 has stopped working" as soon as I run the exe with the -j option.
vdogg89 @ Feb 12th 2008 6:45PM
omg this freaking bricked my iPod touch.
Mike Jenkins @ Feb 12th 2008 9:16PM
Doesn't work, I did a fresh upgrade to 1.1.3 on my iPod Touch and tried the CMD version and GUI version on Vista, and the CMD version on XP, neither worked. I tried it with ituneshelper.exe enabled and disabled, with iTunes open and closed, nothing worked. Always hangs at the Please Wait 45" Any help?
Kyle @ Feb 12th 2008 11:30PM
Hey vdogg89, I'm pretty sure your ipod touch isn't bricked. Just press and hold the "home" button and the "sleep/awake" button for about 10 seconds until the apple logo comes on, and when the logo comes on, let go of the "home" button, but continue to hold the "sleep/awake" down until it comes up to the menu. The problem was, that you started in the updated iPod Touch firmware of 1.1.3 when you should have done it with 1.1.2. With 1.1.2, the iPod would restart automatically, but with 1.1.3, you have to manually reset. But you should have a successfully Jailbroken iPod now. If not, try it again after a apple firmware restore, wait for an hour or so, then reset it with the technique I just taught you. Good luck bud.
Kyle @ Feb 12th 2008 11:33PM
*******CORRECTION*********
let go of the "sleep/awake" button and not the "HOME" button. I'm soo sorry if this made someone mad...
JermTool @ Feb 13th 2008 6:41PM
Kyle man, thank you so much. My phone was stuck on the Apple logo and your little hard reset helped me out tremendously. Well, not at first, but after your correction lol. Thanks!

please help! i bricked my ipod touch using ziphone. i'm pretty much computer illiterate and some how have the whole thing going bonkers. my ipod wont register on itunes. it won't turn off (yes i tried the 10 plus second thing) and the screen is filled with white text. i just want it back to normal settings at this point. can anyone offer advice?
flashcrysamurai @ Apr 12th 2008 4:08PM
hey lazyd, I think I had the same problem and I hope this helps you and anyone else with it. do the reset thing by holding down both buttons while the ipod is connected to your computer. once the text goes away hold down the home button. soon your computer and itunes should figure out what's going on with your ipod and itunes will be able to restore it. just let it do that and you'll be fine.

Ziphone works great under Vista 64. I guess this will boost apple iphone/itouch sales! I think now I'll get another iphone, this time 16gb.
ZiBiT @ Feb 12th 2008 1:14AM

derX @ Feb 12th 2008 2:14AM

supermeerkat @ Feb 12th 2008 3:43AM
If you'd used punctuation we'd have higher regard for you.
Jeff @ Feb 12th 2008 9:43AM
ZiBiT would let us know...however he was writing that post from his iphone...and sadly...
kingkael @ Feb 12th 2008 1:19AM
the screenshot scared me for a sec but it appears that there is a mac version.
Nick @ Feb 12th 2008 1:29AM
where's the mac version?
I haven't tried unlocking my phone because I havent seen or found any unlocking softwares out that I can use without all the super complicated stuff to do to unlock
kingkael @ Feb 12th 2008 1:33AM
@Nick:
On the website you get when you click the read link it says there is a mac and windows version available for download.
Speeddemon2008 @ Feb 12th 2008 1:20AM
now if only i had an iphone...
Jeff @ Feb 12th 2008 1:22AM
The first people downloading it are the ones who buy iPhones, unlock them and sell them in Canada for $700 calling it an excellent 'value'.
Jeff @ Feb 12th 2008 1:26AM
Sorry for replying to myself but I just checked ebay and it has suddenly been flooded with $30 unlocks for 1.1.3 iPhones...

Curse your commenting system Engadget, its as bad as the eBay iPhone unlocking sellers.
kludge @ Feb 12th 2008 1:30AM
errr ... What is iPhone?

Mitch @ Feb 12th 2008 1:31AM
Does this work with the touch? I'm assuming it would, but if anyone's tried it let me know before I upgrade to 1.1.3 and lose all my apps.
jdeuel @ Feb 12th 2008 8:57AM
yup, works on touch 1.1.3, even with software upgrade
Bob S. @ Feb 12th 2008 11:07AM
Many comments to his blog post say it isn't working with the iPod touch 1.1.3, FWIW.
Lance @ Feb 12th 2008 1:34AM
pardon my ignorance, but will this jailbreak a iTouch if i only select jailbreak (no unlock + activate)?
Lance @ Feb 12th 2008 1:35AM
ooops, someone beat me to it
supacool @ Feb 12th 2008 1:34AM

I just unlocked my iphone with his tools

timothy.abbott @ Feb 12th 2008 1:47AM

Mojo @ Feb 12th 2008 8:41AM
Hey, man. Don't download his Mac. That's just not cool.
Mitch @ Feb 12th 2008 1:45AM
Yeah, you can just go into iTunes and hit "restore"
timothy.abbott @ Feb 12th 2008 1:46AM
where is the mac version?
link?
dvashawn @ Feb 12th 2008 1:48AM
It's fairly easy (at least it was for me with my ipod touch) Just do a restore in iTunes and ur back to normal.
Brook @ Feb 12th 2008 1:51AM
works like a charm....took a little more than 45seconds and BAM i was browsing installer.app
rennyn @ Feb 12th 2008 1:53AM
Wow that was fast, and thanks!
Did you try this on your Touch yet?
TazgodX @ Feb 12th 2008 1:57AM
too bad you guys posted this like 24 hours after it was actually released!
i had this yesterday morning, sent an e-mail informing you guys of it, and waited all day just to see how long it was gonna take for you guys to post it.....you guys are getting slow!
Ryan Block @ Feb 12th 2008 2:02AM
You must be thinking of some other site or another piece of software -- this has only been up for a few hours and we never got a tip from any TazgodX.
derX @ Feb 12th 2008 2:19AM
I never got the point of people announcing to the Engadget community that you sent a tip in ages ago and didn't get any credit for tipping them off.
What's the point? Just think about the result: everyone is informed in the end.
It's not like you developed the program, you just stumbled upon it.
TazgodX @ Feb 12th 2008 2:59AM
i didn't want credit for this, it is not my app. if you want to give credit give credit where its due. to zibri! he wrote it. or if you believe the Iphone-dev team, its their tool which he stole. whichever story you want to believe believe it. but believe me when i tell you i was talking about this at 10:30AM CST in #iPhone on EfNet with someone else, and have logs to prove it.it was posted here at 12:30AMCST the next day.
I was just trying to get the news out. you guys seriously need to calm down with the bashing.
derX @ Feb 12th 2008 3:24AM
You think *this* is bashing?
I guess you've never read a thread where someone asks "does it play doom?"
trevor @ Feb 12th 2008 5:46AM
...or "does it blend?", or "I, for one, welcome our robot...", or irreverent, die-hard Apple/Microsoft fanboys...
No one likes any of you. Go away.
Raheem @ Feb 12th 2008 6:06AM
I for one welcome our credit-hungry overlords. :D
ClaMs @ Feb 12th 2008 7:22AM
@ trevor,
You make an interesting comment, but will it blend?
